I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before coming here or I may have passed. The road here was a good dirt road. It looks like they graded it recently, so not a bad drive at all. Wonderful canyon hike from the end of the camp and beautiful drives throughout this area. It is worth doing the loop through Rainbow Canyon.

I think the BLM has abandoned this campground. Can't understand why no one else has mentioned this.
Stayed November 2021.

Once you get there, it's a lovely scenic area. But there is no escaping the road in. It's just washboards, no clearance issue, but serious washboards you can't avoid. The picnic tables are covered which is a nice touch. As mentioned, water is limited so definitely bring your own as there may be none available.

BUT! All that being said, even with the flat, we would come back. It’s a really pretty and quiet campground and the site is fairly level.
We have a 33’ travel trailer.

Before you enter the official campground there was an area for equestrian use, a large area with horse corrals and outhouse.
The campground was under used midweek. Most campers came in just for one night. Do be aware if you make the right turn to access sites located there, you must cross a couple of small washes. We dragged on the first one coming and going, but it was worth the drag to get to site 16. Most sites can accommodate large rigs. Numerous clean outhouses, trash cans, ramadas and firepits.
Owl canyon hiking trail was fun, although you will need to do some boulder climbing if you want to do the entire hike. The hike goes directly up the canyon, don't be misled by all the trails heading off in all directions. We were a bit disappointed at the end, there was no fantastic view even if you hike further up the numerous hills at the end of the wash.
While we were there, there were probably 10 sonic booms (we assume). OMG, it was frighteningly loud and shook our RV!

It's quiet, has nice big spots and each has a picnic table under a permanent shelter, a firepit and a grill. There is potable water brought in that you can get from several spickets in the park. There are also trash bins that are bear proof.
There's a hiking trail and many other places to walk to view different parts of this crazy beautiful landscape. We also drove the Rainbow Basin road, that was something to see too! The stars are very visible from here, it's 20 minutes from town so you do get some light from the south but not enough to take away from the beauty of the night sky.
We had AT&T and Verizon service at our site but if you went 20 steps in either direction it was not usable. We also use a WeBoost. It was good enough for us to use for work which is a must for us.
The drive in is washboard but not any worse than other roads that we have taken to get to amazing spots. We drive a F-350 dually pulling a 35 ft fifth wheel and had no issues in or out and also no issues finding a spot. There was never more than 6 campers there while we were there. There were several class A's that came and went also.
The spots are very far apart as well. We highly reccomend this campground, especially if you enjoy silence and star gazing.

Taken that you have something to do while around here this place is great. Inexpensive, clean, and did not look busy. A lot of sites can easily take rigs larger than 40'. Water is brought up here by truck every week, so don't count with much water and if the place is busy enough they may run out of the water. Verizon and T-Mobile ... more

Verizon and T-Mobile working great
The road getting here is the only drawback... Terrible washboard and in some places no matter how fast or slow you go it will be a very bumpy ride.

Spoke to a ranger who has been working the site for 40 years. He was so kind. If you have any questions about the area, he’s you’re guy!
The campground is close enough to town to access what you need but far enough away that there’s no light to pollute the night sky. We were the only ones camping here and it was deafeningly—but refreshingly—quiet. On our way out, we spotted a fairly large, dead rattlesnake on the side of the road. This is the desert and they are around so be aware of that if you have small children.
It is a washboard road. Add an additional 25 mins to your drive time if you are traveling in an RV. You will have to creep along. It’s also worth noting that the campground is split into a few sections. If you have an RV longer than 25’, do not turn “right” to go toward that portion of the park. You will drag.
Overall, a very nice park and we will be visiting again in the future!
