“Great stay along the Parks Hwy, close to the Denali Park entrance”

Reviewed Aug 20, 2017

Overall Rating

An easy spot just off the Highway on Otto Lake Road at Mile Post 247. A left turn onto Otto Lake Road, and a quick left onto an unmarked road will lead you into a little BLM gem.

This spot is accessible by larger rigs with some maneuvering, however if you want to go to the second section, we suggest a short walk to look at the current situation. Short trees and an open area will help keep the solar charged as long as the rain stops, which in August is a blessing when it happens. The fire pits that have been built by previous campers were nice to use, and collecting dry alder branches was found to be easy for firewood.

Expect to find some signs of bear in the area, a nice lot worth staying in for several days. The lake is a short drive down the road, or an easy bike ride on the paved road or ATV trail. The town of Healy is just down the road where you can find provisions at the local convenience store. Coming soon is an IGA grocery store that is way beyond needed in the up and coming tourist area. If you want to go whitewater rafting, Denali Outdoor Center is located just a ½ mile down Otto Lake road, and they also have a campground there with showers and Laundry. Also if work is needing to be done, like as I write this post you get to have 5 bars of LTE service with Verizon.

During our stay we had one had one truck that came back to stay every day, and a motorcyclist camping out. We camped in the second section, and enjoyed the walks around the fields just below the parking area.

“Perfect boondocking just North of Denali NP”

Overall Rating

This is a small parking area that will accommodate at a max 3 rigs even though I have seen 4 here for one night. 2 areas to park, 1st being first area as you pull in. You can put 1 to 2 smaller RV's in that space and if you continue down the road a 100 feet or so a second site opens up for 1 rig to fit. Campfire rings already in the area when we arrived. We are a 38ft Class A and was able to finagle our way into the 2nd site without too much problems. I would recommend walk in and check things out before driving in if your in a larger RV. Also I do not recommend driving past the second parking area. The only type of camping I suggest in that area is tent camping. Overall wonderful place to boondock. 11 miles north of Denali National Park entrance. 49th State Brewery 2 miles north of location and several stores and services within a few miles. You can also get water and dump for free at the RIley Campground inside Denali National Park before or after your visit here. Great mountain views all around from this parking site.
