“Four-wheel drive to a beautiful place ”

This is a beautiful location with trout fishing and about 7 or 8 sites around the lake. These are a few pit toilets that were in well-maintained condition, but no water (other than many springs and the lake). Cement tables and fire rings at most sites. Definitely not for trailers, as the various roads leading here require high clearance and several off-camber challenges. If it has been raining, it might be inaccessible for most. No cell service, but lots of places to hike or take short drives. The beauty of the lake, the aspens, and the distinct rock formations make this an excellent dry camp destination. The many springs on the east side of the lake were a good place to fill small jugs of water, although access is a bit challenging.

“We turned around”

Knott creek road (off highway 140) was excellent for 10 miles or so, until the turnoff to the reservoir, whereupon the road became very rocky and rutted. The sign indicated it was 8 miles to the lake, and we decided we did not want to go any further, one reason being it is in the middle of nowhere and there is no cell service. Back on highway 140, Virgin Valley campground was not far away and would have been a decent choice, but we decided to head to Frenchglen and one of our favorite campgrounds, Page Springs.
