I was staying 30 minutes away in Dothan, AL but took a drive here to check it out on October 6, 2021, since there weren't any reviews for it on Campendium. I thought I might want to stay here on a trip in the future.
I called the day before to confirm that camping was available, and the person I spoke to confirmed it was.
The drive to the park was picturesque. All roads are paved. Upon entering the intersection where Omussee Creek Road forks into Picnic road (straight ahead), and Omussee Creek Road (left turn) there was a sign with camping prices (Overnight camping $7, RV Hookups $17) and a phone number for reservations (334-696-4626).
Picnic road had a gate and was closed. One of the signs said to turn left for camping.
I turned left and entered an enormous parking lot, presumably for the boat ramp. (See satellite view on Google Maps.) After passing the boat ramp, there is a smaller lot and an area that looks like a day-use area. There was a playground with a swing set, picnic tables behind a wooden fence, and at the end of the road at the turnaround was a basketball goal. Also at the turnaround, were two sites off of the pavement that were possibly the RV hookup sites.
Because of the earlier sign pointing me this way for camping, I can only assume that for tent or car/van camping, one must park next to the wooden fence and choose a picnic table. Hopefully, future reviewers can clarify.
The creek looked a little high, and because of a current flash flood warning, I was happy with my decision not to camp there tonight. However, the place was beautiful, peaceful, and serene on this day. I would definitely come back to camp. Other than a county work truck, mine was the only vehicle there.
Before I headed back to Dothan, I stopped in the boat trailer lot to check my Verizon cell service. My phone kept going back and forth between 1 and 2 bars. I raised my antenna and turned on my cell booster, and got 4 bars.
Van Life Wannabe would stay here again
