“Great stop between Durango and Silverton”

Reviewed Sep 12, 2018

Overall Rating

We stayed here on Saturday night of Labor Day Weekend. We arrived after dark and there were quite a few people in the meadow and a few people along the road, but it was fairly quiet. The first part of the road wasn't bad for an Outback, but we decided not to venture too far. We would stay here again, for sure.

“Beautiful view, easy access!”

Reviewed Jun 23, 2018

Lovely spot to pull off the milllion dollar highway (Hwy 550) in Colorado for the night. Easy access; no facilities but who cares? Went in at the south end (Old Lime Creek Road). Drove up a ways but opted to return for the beautiful view from the meadow. Only 2 others (and widely spread) on Saturday evening.

So there are two entrances to Old Lime Crick Road. From the southern entrance you'll find what the previous reviewer(s) are talking about. A big field, nothing particularly special. Beyond the lake, which is stunning, if you keep driving you will eventually get to a really narrow, rocky, dangerous cliff. Then you'll see a sign that ... more

“Wonderful on weekdays. Just ok on the weekends. ”

We stopped here because we were too tired to go to the Silverton area. We were glad we did. We parked in a huge field. Everyone else parked in the dirt lot up top. We had magnificent views all around. The road gets BAD after the field. Do not pass the field with your trailer or motorhome. Some vans would be ok. We unhitched and drove u... more

“Quiet and easy”

Nice large area with a few disturbed sites spread out, good distance between neighbors and a beautiful area. Conveniently located about halfway (~25 miles) between Durango and Silverton. There are nicer sites closer to Silverton if that's your destination but it was nice to have the amenities of a larger city like Durango nearby. The N... more

“Majestic Mountain Views!”

Reviewed May 13, 2017

Great views of Engineer Mountain, Spud (Potato) Mountain,Twilights, and West Needles. The area is about 2 1/2 miles north of Purgatory Ski Resort. Locals told us this used to be the main highway years ago. It is a dirt road and is fairly well maintained to the camping sites. Getting off Highway 550, there are two ways to get on to ... more
