This park is conveniently located in Homer. It is closer to the museums and downtown than to the “Spit.” The Spit is very windy and staying there could be quite cold. It is less windy in town. The sites are back in if the area is full but can be pull through if there are a lot of vacancies. We stayed over the 4th of July holiday so the price was high and the campground was packed. It was half empty as soon as the weekend was over. The sites were very close to each other but generally level. The showers were clean and nice. Check in was easy and the staff were friendly. There is a nice view of the bay but the water is way too cold to swim in. There is a trail down to the beach. Cell service is good but I didn’t test the TV. Cable is available.

We ‘dry camped’ in what would be a tent spot, getting the last open site on a holiday week. We completely lucked out getting the last site on the edge of the bluffs looking out over the bay. Wanted to camp on the spit and after going down there, were so happy we ended up in town. Walked everywhere- museum, Independence parade, art shops, dinner. No individual burn pits, but a community burn area which was very nice and I wish more places had them! Every night we made friends :) Downside- there are 2 bathrooms. Each with toilet/sink/shower. For over 80 spots. They are under new management and rebuilding. They have a couple portojohns too. Laundry room is clean and had 4 each. If it weren’t for the shower/toilet thing this place is a dream. They plan a whole shower building, but not till next year.

We've stayed here several times and always enjoyed it. It looks like they closed several years ago but now it appears open, maybe under new management.

The plan was to spend just one night in Homer, and then start heading back towards Anchorage, but they were getting some kings at the fishing hole on the spit and this place was too comfortable for us and the dogs to make it worth moving out to one of the city parks on the spit.
The park sits on a slope between the highway and the bay, with views out to the bay and the mountains on the other side. The spit isn't visible from this location. There are 30 amp back-in sites on the outside, and 50 amp pull throughs in the middle. The sites closest to the water don't have sewer hookups. We had full hookups plus cable TV and a good wifi signal. While the signal was strong at our site, it wasn't fast to upload photos to Campendium. I ended up using my AT&T mifi instead.
I didn't check out the restrooms, shower, or laundry. I DID check out the ice cream shop next door - twice!
Our price reflects a Good Sam discount. Price goes up $5 for high season which starts June 1.
