“Nice Park Along the River”

Overall Rating

We stayed in the South Shore park and were pleased with the upkeep and cleanliness of the park. While nothing special, it was a pleasant stay.

The park is located along the Skunk River and has 50amp electrical hookups, water access throughout the park but not at the sites and has a dump station that is free for people staying at the park and $2 for anyone else. There’s a nice walking trail that has a bridge that crosses over the river to the North Shore Park and fishing off the dam. A small kids playground (our kids are grown up so I didn’t look closely at the playground). All in all, a very nice setup with low rates.

Unfortunately, the park is a bit noisy. While it seemed like a quiet country road at first, we soon learned that there’s heavy traffic on the road. We selected a site that was too close to the bridge but gave us a great view of the river - though in this case, the noise was a poor trade off. It doesn’t help that there are a number of local hicks who like to hit their horns and sound off their glass packs as they cross the bridge, just to get their jolly’s. You can’t blame the park for that, but it does hinder the enjoyment.

Would we stay again? Maybe. Again, it’s a nice park, but not far enough off the road for me. The views of the river are pretty and the park is nicely maintained. In a pinch for a quick weekend getaway- we’d consider returning.
