Great location for visiting places like Mount Vernon, Gunston Hall, and of course, Washington DC. The nearest Walmart is in Triangle and it is the nicest we have ever been to.

It's probably the best camping bargain in this area, and the entry kiosk was not staffed during our weeklong stay in early May of 2022 (COVID? Pre-Memorial Day?), so there was no entrance fee on top of our campsite fee, as other reviewers have mentioned.
Site was easy to reserve on recreation.gov.
Campground was very clean, nearly deserted on weekdays; slight uptick of families in tents over the weekend. Sites are all over the place with regard to width, length, and degree of slope, but all are paved.
Bathrooms and bathhouse were modern and clean with plenty of hot water. The facilities in loops A and C are bathrooms only; the building in loop B has toilets plus 3 shower stalls with shelves, hooks, curtains, and doors with working latches.
There are no electrical hookups, no dump station, and water source is limited to a couple of water pumps that you cannot drive up to, but could fill a water jug if need be. In other words: if you're in an RV, fill your fresh water tank elsewhere before arrival. Entire campground is heavily wooded with a thick leaf canopy during the leafy seasons, so relying completely upon solar is inadvisable.
Although the campground is near I-95 as the crow flies, it's about a 20-minute drive in and out on slow, narrow roads. The only entrance -- despite what GPS might show you -- is the one on Joplin Road (rt 619) between I-95 and Quantico National Cemetery. Those other options you see are either blocked off, or are limited to park service vehicles only.
There's no WiFi, and cell signal on T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T is a weak 1-2 bars, and often cuts out completely, so this is not a good option for those who need to do remote work. Watching streaming video is possible if you don't mind getting up to do other things while the wheel spins.

It was almost empty when we camped on a tues night in sept. I’m not sure why it lists spots better for rv’s. All the spots are walk backs. I will say the pad was large enough we could still step out of our van onto concrete instead of mud. The spots are all nice and shady, just know in the fall, the acorns are raining down. ... more

The spots are all nice and shady, just know in the fall, the acorns are raining down.
The camp spots behind the pads are all very large. Very nice maintained fire rings and tables.
Lots of warnings for copper head snakes but we didn’t see any on our short stay over.
Looks like lots of road biking and some light hiking.
We stayed here on our way into DC, it made for a nice drive in during the am.

Very close to 95 makes this an attractive stop, but there was a lot more rewards to be found. Quite and Uncrowded (weekday in August), clean restrooms and plenty of lovely hiking trails, as well as popular and safe place to road bike. I never found any showers 🤷🏽♂️

Needed a last minute spot to camp on my road trip and it was super easy to get to and sleep at with my jeep and rooftop tent.
It is pet friendly too!!
Only thing is that there is an entrance fee per vehicle unless you have a pass that you’ll need to account for if you plan on spending the night.

This campground is not far from home. I was there for just the one night doing a shakedown run before heading out on a long trip. What I found was: on the positive side the campground was sparsely populated. On the down side, it was a bit noisy. First off there was a crew doing work nearby using power tools. It gave me a good excuse to exercise my generator for an hour or so. Also I was near the group area and was surprised there were so many campers there. Also surprising was the amount of traffic. Things did settle down after 9PM which was good. The bathroom seemed fine. The camp host was helpful. I did see rangers around, always a welcome sight. All in all will likely try this again given its proximity to home base. Also $13 site fee (after discount) is not bad even without hookups. My Verizon signal was weak but with the booster it got up to decent.

The campsite was not too level, but it was very secluded. Lots of small trees around it - 3/4 of our site. We saw Rangers drive by several times during our one night stay which is nice.
There were a couple of nice hiking trails within walking distance of the campground, but most of the hiking trails you need to drive to. They have a number of bike trails but they really just fire roads. The biking trails are also very hilly!
Note that it was tough to find parking at the visitor center and some of the other parking lots as this park is very popular.
