“Sunny, breezy, peaceful”

Reviewed Jan 30, 2018

Overall Rating

Just came into Mesa from Oak flat campground for a couple of nights. It was very easy to get to & right off the highway, but just far enough to lose the road noise. There were many spots of all sizes with fire pits and picnic tables. The area seemed pretty full, but we had no trouble finding a spot, and it stayed quiet and peaceful... more

“Pretty spot to relax”

Reviewed Dec 03, 2017

Overall Rating

The campground is easy to find right off the US 60. Only 5 minutes away from the town of Superior. Roads within the campground are somewhat rough but not too bad. There is some road noise but not enough to spoil the experience in my opinion. Gorgeous area with lots of birds and other wildlife to watch. One night a group of five javelin... more

“Great spot”

Reviewed Nov 27, 2017

Overall Rating

Nice spot. Each site had tables and a fire pit. Sites were pretty close to each other though. It was busy and we grabbed the last spot open. Lots of shade in most of the sites. There were vault toilets also. We did have some coyotes visit us on our second night, but we were in our camper so no big deal. Only a 5 min drive to stores an... more

“Nice Campground”

Reviewed May 25, 2017

Overall Rating

I enjoyed this campground. It was quiet the whole time I was there. I could hear the highway traffic, but not loud enough to be an issue. The area is very scenic and there are plenty of trails to explore. I would say about half of the campsites are shaded and the other half not. The outhouses were very clean and well-kept. Th... more

“Be Cautious Where You Walk”

We camped at Oak Flat over President's weekend. The campground was nearly full. The political activities described by the previous reviewer are still going on, but no one tried to hand us information. We had very little Verizon cell reception in the campground. When I tried to walk over a hill toward the entrance road to get bette... more

“Politics going on here..”

Reviewed Mar 22, 2015

I pulled in thinking it was just going to be another quiet camp site in the Tonto National Forest, turns out there are huge issues going on with this land and there are Native American groups that are long term camping out there and protesting the nearby mining companies fight to take it over for copper mining. Without knowing all the ... more
