“Update – May 2019 – It’s OPEN”

Reviewed May 18, 2019

Overall Rating

This is just a note to confirm we stopped by to check this fave place of ours (but without staying – we were heading for somewhere else nearby) and it seemed OPEN and running as normal (following 2018 forest fires that closed it previously). We saw no signs indicating otherwise. There was one lone RV parked in the regular huge ‘Car P... more

“Sadly, this area was destroyed by wildfire as of 7/2018”

Reviewed Jan 30, 2019

Overall Rating

Was a good place to tent camp, right on a once beautiful Whiskeytown Lake. The area was completely destroyed by the Carr Fire in July 2018. Hoping is reopens soon.
Not much left for shade. Sad.

“No frills but FREE (including the dump) for Parks Pass holders!”

Reviewed Jan 29, 2016

Overall Rating

We love this handy place, an ideal stop-over between the coast (where we live) and Redding and all points inland. With all due respect to previous reviewer John & BJ, it sounds like they were RV-camping in the wrong place, a regular car park down near the water and trails. (No wonder they had trouble fitting!) True, the place takes a... more

“Parking Lot Camping for a Fee”

Reviewed Jan 03, 2015

Overall Rating

There is a campground but even small rigs like us don't fit. RV's end up parked in a lot with fewer options than you'd have at Walmart. $9 w senior pass. Very slow Verizon 3G connection even with antenna and amplifier. There is a dump on site.
