We camped here in our 15' travel trailer on a cliff top site overlooking the Bay of Fundy. It is a very primitive camping experience as there is no water, no flush toilets, or electricity on these sites. Backing into the site was challenging but doable. Many of the sites are very private and spread out over what seems to be a very large area. We didn't see or hear neighbors when we were there in mid July. There are pit toilets. There are some hookup sites for larger rigs down at the main entrance but there aren't any views of the water there. The camp office with showers, kitchen, and laundry facilities are about a mile drive away and are pretty basic but they work. The reason we went to this campground is to see and hear whales from our campsite and we did! It was very exciting to see them come close below our site and to listen to them blow. They were all finback whales. We also saw seals and seabirds and the ferries coming and going. We had one night with fog and both of the nearby lighthouses were blowing their horns. The ferry trip over is also good for spotting whales, puffins, razorbills, dolphins and other sea life. GM island itself is fairly undeveloped and not at all touristy. The eponymous hole in the wall is exactly what you will see in the pictures. You can hike to it. The beaches are rocky, not sandy and although it was mid July and sunny it didn't feel like swim weather. The island itself isn't interesting enough for us to go back, but we did enjoy our experience at the campground very much. Go grocery shopping at one of the big towns like St. John before you get onto the ferry because there is only a little supermarket with not a lot of choice on the island. There is a large hardware store where you can get camping supplies, and of course good fresh fish to buy. Go on a whale watch. And if you want to see puffins, you have to book the puffin trip about 6 months in advance.
Debora would stay here again
