Overall Rating

This camping area is located off of NF-508 which is located off of Hazard Lake Road on the North side of Goose Lake 12.3 miles from ID-55 and 17.5 miles from McCall, ID. Exact coordinates are 45.095285, -116.163864.

Directions & Road info:
To get to this campsite you turn North onto Brundage Mountain Road for 6 miles, then keep left onto Goose Lake Road for 4 miles then just past signs for Grouse Campground the road name changes to Hazard Lake Road. Continue on Hazard Lake road for another 1.5 miles then turn left onto NF-508 - the turn is hard to spot and the sign is pretty worn, so watch for it. Brundage Mountain Road is paved for the first 4 miles then is gravel all the way to this campsite. Once the road turns to gravel there are some washboard parts that are a little rough and there are some small potholes but for the most part this is a pretty nice Forest Road. Be careful though, there are some free road cattle and we've seen plenty of deer on this road too.

About Campsites here:
There are quite a few places you can camp here on NF-508, about 6 spots with fire rings. Most campsites on this road are large enough for any size RV and you can pick from shaded to full sun. The sites are all pretty level, we barely needed any leveling. Only the first 3 sites are accessible the easiest because the trees on this road are close enough that it'll scrape and this road ends at a campsite turn around. We wouldn't take our trailer down any further than the first 3 sites because of this.

Absolutely free with an 18 night camping limit unlike Grouse Campground and Hazard Lake Campground both of which are $10/night but neither have any hookups. It's also VERY quiet here despite being so close to the National Forest road. It's really dark at night which is great for star gazing, and it's absolutely beautiful here. We made it so our front door is facing the meadow and seeing Goos Lake in the distance with the tree covered hills surrounding it is very relaxing.

The only con we can think of camping on this road is that it's actually quite steep when pulling in so if it's muddy, snowy, or you have a particularly heavy rig it could be difficult to get down or back up the hill so use caution.

Things every camper needs:
We found everything we needed in McCall, ID. We got water and dumped at Ponderosa State Park for $5 but if you have an Idaho State Parks Pass it's free to dump. We shopped at Albertsons and fueled and re-filled our propane in McCall, ID which is 17.5 miles from this campsite.
