The road on the WEST side of the pass (prior to Summit Campground) is just bad enough that you can still drive a high clearance vehicle. That statement is not a compliment. The road alternates between washboard, sharp rocks, more rocks, large ruts and did I mention rocks. I do not think this road has been graded in years.

If you want to camp here, approach from the east side of the pass (from the Kremmling/Walden side). It will be far faster and nicer on your vehicle.

The views are amazing and cellular connection improves as one climbs, but it is not worth the damage you will do to the inside of your trailer. Leave this one to the Jeeps.

This forest road spur has 5 or 6 sites with epic views of the mountains. The first site is easily reached from the main road, and requires a drive up a grassy two track past a large bolder. It is a nice site for solitude and is party shaded.

The wind was steady and there were little mosquitoes, however we did not stay the night.

The area was very popular as we visited on a Friday and most sites were already full.
