“Nice location by the river and the Doctor Park Trailhead ”

Nice location by the river and the Doctor Park Trailhead. Clean campground, well maintained sites. We had one bar of Verizon but weren’t able to use our Starlink as most sites are wooded (there are a few open ones but they were taken). No drinking water available here and the pit toilets were stinky

Probably not for big rigs, but we were able to get in and out with our 30 ft 5th wheel. The first couple of sites and a couple at the end might work. The road in is pretty rough. $9 for "Interagency", which probably means senior or handicapped, not Annual. The campground host seems like a real character, living in a tent since May 1 ❄️... more

We didn't actually stay but I wish we had.

This pretty Forest Service campground is just up the road from the small resort town of Almont, Colorado. The road has some large potholes going in, but is easily navigable by any vehicle if you go slow. Located deep in the Taylor River canyon, the sites are nicely spaced, surrounded by tall pine trees and right on the river bank. It’s technically close to the highway, but because it’s on the other side of the river, you hardly notice it due to the wonderful river soundtrack.
Instead you will get some noise from the river rafting boats and from the mountain bikers coming off the Doctor Park trail, but that’s the kind of noise I can deal with.
No hookups here and solar can be difficult being in a canyon and all, but it’s well worth any deprivations. There is a hand pumped well for water and bear boxes and trash is also available. Verizon signal is surprisingly strong considering it’s in a canyon. This makes for a great working site.
Firewood is available from the camp host for an additional fee.

The rush of water helps mask traffic noise. You'll have some happy whooping rafters go by occasionally, though. There are potholes in the access road, and some of the sites are far from level, but it's the right kind of place for anglers and hikers. And, amazingly for any place up a canyon, there's 4G Verizon service.
