“One of Our Favorite Places Along Our Summer of 2023 RV2AK Trip”

Reviewed 6/8/2024

Nightly rate: $30
Days stayed: 3
Site Number: "dry camp", aka boondocking site
Overall Rating

We actually stayed July 11-14, 2023. It's about 100 miles of a side trip off the Alcan. Norm, the owner (for over 40 yrs) was a wealth of knowledge about this whole area and very friendly & talkative, in a great way! Price listed was Canadian dollar, not US.

Had originally planned on staying 1 night, but so loved the area opted for the extra nights. Sites were $30 per night with electric and water or the only "dry camp/boondocking" site for the same price, which you had to drive out of the campground back onto another side road and have him unlock the gate for this "private" campsite on it's on little finger out into the lake. The "Penthouse" site was on a little finger out on the lake on the opposing side of the boat ramp area and right next to the other sites. Most of the sites are really close together, but would be worth it for a night or two in such a beautiful location.

Water was from a spigot at the entry to the campground, took about 15 mins to fill our 100 gal fresh water tank. Porta-toilets only. All sites are full sun. Penthouse & dry camp sites are by far the largest sites.

We took drives up Discovery & Warm Bay Rds, Surprise Lake, the Dredge and Llewellyn Glacier View. There are a few forest service campgrounds that would be fun to stay at outside of town. If you have the time be sure to do some side trips while here.

Starlink - excellent coverage
