Arrival was easy, it's off a dirt road a couple miles west of Sedona. The turn off is a bit sharp, but the dirt road is wide. The road is okay, with some pot holes and rivulets, so I drove slowly. There were some shabbier camps immediately into the area, so I just kept going - having scouted the area first. I'd estimate three miles down the access road, to my right, was an elevated rise, with a perfect "perch" of a site. That was the one that I wanted!
I camped here for a week and loved the entire time. The sunrises and sunsets were amazing. I hiked and 4x4 all around the wilderness. I cruised into both Sedona and Cottonwood for dinners, which I found to be a pleasant little drive.
Special bonus: I awoke Saturday morning to hot air balloons rising!

Assez facile d’accès Après 25 min sur la route forestière. Un site magnifique, extrêmement calme et disposant d’une vue à couper le souffle. Retour en pleine nature. Nous aurions souhaité y rester plus longtemps.

This was our first time boondocking for more than an overnight and certainly going this far off road. We read all the reviews and felt confident in taking our large rig in. We entered off Drycreek to cut down on time and the directions that are listed in previous post were accurate and good. I would just add to it that when you think you missed something or feel like you've gone too far, keep going. It's there just as described but because we had to drive so slowly and were a bit nervous anyway it seemed like forever. It was totally worthwhile. We quickly found a large spot and the views were amazing. Just what we had hoped. Over the course of 5 days a few campers came and went but it was never crowded and everyone just didn't their own thing. It was incredible. There is daily road traffic from the ATV's but that didn't bother us as we were out most days anyway and the late afternoon/evenings were completely quiet and peaceful. We didn't have any issues with the size of our camper. Just take it slow. My only grumble was the long drive in/out each day in our truck. That was so rough and still felt long unhitched but I cant really complain since we wanted to be way out in the rocks. A definite recommend!

Pretty much ditto on Roger an Teddy previous review, If you coming in from the north through Sedona, just several blocks past the police station, turn right on Dry Creek Rd. Some sights are pretty big, but uneven, smaller sights seemed more level.
I found that going into the tank was no problem, old barb wire gate at end of road.
We used Nolan as a base for day trips, Jerome etc.
For those who aren't into the hustle of downtown Sedona, check out Old Town Cottonwood, pleasant surprise.
Also read previous reviews if coming on 89A to 525, lots of sights closer to 89A, can be crowded and dusty

Thanks to Campendium reviews we scored again! Awesome red rock vistas made the 6 miles of bumpy dirt road worthwhile. Thanks to Campendium reviews we scored again! Awesome red rock vistas made the 6 miles of bumpy dirt road worthwhile. There are spots all along FS 525, however if Nolan Tank (FS 9549C) is your goal, do yourself a favor and turn onto Dry Creek Rd in Sedona, then left on Boynton Pass Rd and left again on 525 and ta da, you’re there! You cut the bumpy, dirt road travels to about 2 ½ miles.
At Nolan Tank, I think the sites closest to FS525 have better views, but then you also have more road noise from the steady stream of pink jeep tours and OHV rentals. Sites further back may offer more seclusion from the road, but the area is popular and you’ll likely have close neighbors, especially on weekends. We opted for the views and since we managed to angle our rig away from the road we weren’t bothered by the traffic or dust.
Some of the areas and sites previously open to boondocking have signs posted restricting access. The tank itself is fenced off, so no access to play with the pup in the water. There are lots of hiking and biking trails in the area and a short drive to Sedona and about a million other things to see and do. We loved our stay here and would come back in a heartbeat.
We had 2 bars of somewhat unreliable Verizon 4G unboosted, and managed a stable 3 bars of 4G boosted.

About a 6 mile drive down Forest Road 525. Plenty of places to pull over. Some are closed off for restoration, but still so many. The closeness to Sedona is perfect. Everyone is friendly and was usually pretty quiet after 10pm.

Our 4G LTE was intermittent; decent in the mornings and evenings, but non-existent in the afternoons.
We highly recommend this spot and would absolutely go back again!

I had my two grandsons with me, and they quite enjoyed exploring the local cacti variations. I would definitely stay here again. There are many spots to choose from. I was easily able to get my pickup and 17 foot trailer in and out of the sites. The road has a bit of washboarding, but if you go slow, it should be no problem.
