Overall Rating
Ninilchik River Campground is the second campground in Ninilchik River State Recreation Area. There are 43 sites in the campground including a couple host sites that were empty but blocked off. Some tent only sites were had ganged parking with 3-5 parking spaces. The other sites were all double spaces. Memorial Day Weekend and opening weekend of the King Salmon season in the river and the place was still less than 20% full. Unless you're camping with a friend, or willing to pay double, camping here is a gamble since you have no control over who will be parked with you.
The sites and loop road are gravel. The grass around the sites had grown quite high. Lots of other possibilities within 20 miles make this a last choice for me.
The low numbered sites are close to the highway but behind a row of trees.
AT&T was strong and fast. Based on time in the area 2 years ago, I would expect 3 bars on Verizon but I didn't have our Verizon hotspot on this trip.
