“Not well maintained. ”

Stayed at the New London Reservoir & Campground this weekend (9/27-9/29/19)
I've read rave reviews so we had to check it out. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. The beach area was clean. There was a trash can near the beach but no steps to use it.

There was a memorial flower bed that hadn't been maintained in a very very long time. That made me sad.

One of the pavilions was very nice and well maintained. The basketball court, 1/2 a court, was well maintained with an adjustable hoop. There were two playgrounds. The one up front was well maintained.

Our site was 119A which was by the lake. It was very nice except as you can see from the first photo, not such a good view. A little brush hog could fix that. There was trash at our site when we arrived. We noticed many old dilapidated campers throughout, what we believe, was the seasonal area. There were several tent sites, we believe posted as "hollow 1-4" maybe? The Hollow 1 was in terrible need of attention.

As we were getting ready to leave, we decided to check out the cabins. They are very nice but they have futons which were quite dirty and gross. One of the cabins had a toddler bed with the mattress that had a huge hole in it. We also noticed some trash beside the fire ring by one of the cabins. As we were packing up, we noticed what appeared to be a maintenance man go to the cabin, walk over to the fire ring, and kick the trash so the wind would blow it away. 🥴

The second and third photos show their pull through sites. I would be unhappy if I had to use one of them. A little grass would go a long way.

The roads were just plain horrible. Huge ruts and quite narrow. The biggest problem was the train. Train tracks run behind the campground and run, and use the horn, all night. It ran about every 30 to 45 mins. Be sure to bring ear plugs.

Would we return? We don't know.

“Pleasant, shaded campsites with water and electric.”

We stayed one night, September 9, 2019 at the New London, Ohio recreation park campground, which is one of two parks the small village of New London offers. All the sites there are shaded and grassy. In wet weather beware of the sites in the low areas, there was evidence of deep ruts on some of them.
At least in the off season, there is no staff onsite, registration is done at the Reservoir campground about another mile and a half further down the road.

Bathrooms are sub par, old and broken fixtures and slow flushing toilets.
WARNING: railroad goes thru town and within 1000' of the campsites. Trains go by all day and all night.
On the plus side, they have a fabulous playground for children and an ice cream stand that was unfortunately closed the day we were there :(

For a great breakfast try the diner in the heart of town on Main street - AAA !
