Our first time in Myrtle. The park is very pretty. The beach is gorgeous and relatively uncrowded. The campground itself was awful. By far the worst state park we’ve seen. Sites are jammed together! When we drove in, we realized we’d made a mistake and decided to leave & go somewhere else but when we got to our site (333), it was a semi-private back in that wasn’t too bad so we stayed. Our site had plenty of candy wrappers and trash scattered around. There were lots of loose dogs and kids (7-10 year olds?) tearing around in golf carts. We woke up the next morning to find our car had been vandalized...doors open, glove box dumped out, etc. They left a cheap looking knife on the floor mat and stole some loose change. It’s a soft top Wrangler so it’s not hard to break into and I’m just happy they didn’t tear up the top. They must not have had bolt cutters because they didn’t steal our cooler that was locked in the back.
The whole campground just felt like a trashy, low rent neighborhood. If you decide to stay, make sure you lock up your stuff.

From the moment we arrived we were impressed with how clean and tidy everything was. Our site was about a 10 minute stroll from the beach. Site was spacious and well laid out - quite private and easy to back into. From our site we could hear the main road nearby as well as the airport which was OK yet one couldn’t say that it was silent. The daily fighter jet flyover is awesome (unless you’re on a zoom call). Camp store is well stocked. There’s a Food Lion literally on the other side of the street from the park for grocery needs and camping world a few minutes down the road (cleanest and best stocked Camping world store We have ever been to). What we found out the day before departure is that your park pass also gets you into Huntington State Park which is neat yet we weren’t able to make use of it. Overall a great place to escape the winter for a week. Am sure it’s a different scene in the summer beach months yet it was really relaxing and laid back.

We hold a special bias towards loving this state park - this is our 4th stay here, and once again we enjoyed the snowbird special rate, although this go-round we were unable to secure a campsite with sewer (just water/50A).
Things we love about this park:
- Quick walk to a beautiful section of the beach for lovely sunrises/runs/walks/sits with a book.
- Cheap pricing - especially if you are committing to the snowbird special. Professionally operated by rangers/staff.
- Never had an issue with 'partiers' - although not sure there would be quiet hour enforcement if we did.
- Two laundry rooms ($2 wash, $2 dry). Showers/bathrooms are clean (but water is only 'warm' at any time).
Things that were rough for us this go-round:
- FLOODING. Not rig damaging flooding, and we lucked out with a campsite that did not hold water, but holy goodness the campground was covered in at least 6'' of water most of our stay. If it rains for more than an hour or two, the campsites here fill up. This is fine if you chance upon a non-flooding campsite: bonus water feature! We felt really bad for those in tents or vans whose sites were waterlogged for days on end.
- Lots of potholes in the loops this time, although I expect these will be repaired once the 'rainy season' is over (does it ever end here?)
- Planes. Yes, you hear them overhead, typically starting at around 5:30 am (wake-up-call for the sunrise!)
- Campsites are not private - you have neighbors and you will see your neighbors. But, you have room to set-up chairs and on the table outside if you choose (and if the campsite is not flooded).
We'll definitely be back - the price is right, the beach is lovely.

This State Park is in one of the best locations we’ve seen. Nestled in a huge wooded setting, set back from the beach. It doesn’t feel like you are just 15min from the hustle and bustle of Myrtle beach.
There is a bike track for easy access to the shopping complex across from the entrance to the State Park. Its 15min from Murrels Inlet (great seafood places!) The State Park has its own fishing pier and you can walk to Mtryle using the beach! The State Park has an entrance fee for visitors which keeps traffic down (fee not payable if camping). It is also gated from 10pm to 6am.
Most sites have some privacy between them. Half the sites are full hookup, the other having electric and water. Most sites can fit a travel trailer or larger, with a few sites towards the front of the park reserved for tents or tiny trailers only.
The amenities although older, are clean. Decent size laundry which takes $2 of quarters.
Cell service (Sprint) was ok, however the parks WIFI is poor, especially toward the back of the park, do not rely on it. Even in the off season (December) they said it was also due to so many people using it. Summer it wouldn't work at all.
Will definitely stay again.

The sites are fairly wooded, especially in the outside loops where they back up to forest. The pull-thru sites in the middle are not very private, per usual. The park was much more wooded than I expect; there is a lot of nature here.
Amenities: Myrtle Beach (8-10 minute walk), Nature Center, Playground, Games (horse shoes, ladder golf, etc) Area, Trails for people and horses, and more.
Connectivity: Verizon / Visible cell service was solid. The park WiFi was unreliable.
Staff: Warm and welcoming! No power tripping park police here, as far as we can tell.
There are a few private "RV resorts" in the area as well, but the one we drove through was basically an overpriced grass parking lot. This park is not like those places at all! We'll be back in the spring.

The beach is beautiful and quiet this time of year. Amazing sunrise! The spots seem hit and miss. We were super happy with our setup and location, but we did have to use blocks to get level. (Thanks to a prior review that had all the best sites listed!) The space was fairly private and spacious. The laundry room was an added bonus. We stayed away from town, but a great grocery store right across the street. After seeing the mega RV resorts nearby, we were super happy with our choice!

Some sites, as listed in a previous review, are significantly more private than others. We made a reservation after having a tough time finding a spot at points further north. Luckily, they had several spots open and also had no issues with us switching spots after taking a look around. We also lucked out in that nobody was near us, which gave us loads of space but if the park would have been full our spot at 185 would have been pretty close in to the next guy.
That, the speedy cell service and the beautiful beach and pier are the upsides.
Our electrical box kept tripping, so we essentially had no shore power for the duration of our stay. It would trip every 5 minutes at the longest. We have solar power as well so this wasn’t the biggest issue, but it’s a “get what you pay for” inverse situation and the principle of it all. Then the airplanes, which we never really got used to personally. And though they don’t allow alcohol, people were partying all night long. As a man fond of a beer after driving all day, I find it ridiculous to first tell adults they can’t imbibe and then not enforce late night ragers. The general vibe here was just too RV Park for us, with close sites, people driving too fast or walking into our site though there was no reason to do so, that sort of thing. One Jeep decided to go through our site, 2” from our van, so he could get around a fifth wheel backing into their spot and apparently taking too long to do so. Another time a man gave us the “slow down” wave though we were going to literally 4mph while waiting for him and his gang to finish their conversation in the middle of the road as we approached, their kids bikes and scooters strewn throughout the street.
I guess my take is that if you’re going to operate on RV Park style rules and layouts, then enforce them instead of leaving it as more or less a free for all where those who obey the rules feel uncomfortable having a nice, quiet good time while others do whatever they’d like.
This park also has recycling.

The showers and bathrooms are cleaned a couple times of day and other than the wet sand was kept very clean. We did use the laundry facilities as well which worked very well. The general store and the pier store had just about everything you needed and then some. We only left the park twice the whole time we were there. We will definitely stay here again. The only downside was the park is in direct flight path for the planes landing and taking off at the airport. But once you get used to it you really don't pay it any attention. There were also a lot of pesky mosquitos but it was rainy so I'm sure that didn't help any. I was told they normally spray the park on a regular basis unless it's rainy.
