“Dispersed Camping ”

Dispersed campsites along a gravel/dirt road with potholes. Small and large campsites, mostly along the Sauk River with beautiful views and rock fire pits. During the dry summer months we recommend picking a campsite that is a bit further set from the road so you don’t get totally covered with dust from sporadic road traffic. Also in the summer arrive early, sites fill up fast on weekends! Check for road closures, this road is closed late fall to late spring. No cell reception at all. Many, many trails to choose from for hiking. Darrington is the closest town with services, can be about 1 hour drive on gravel road. Have a treat at Moe’s, local restaurant/cafe with good food (limited menu), good coffee and ice cream, service is slow but worth the wait.

I’m surprised nobody has written a review for this yet. Mountain Loop Highway is a treasure of Western Washington. There are pull outs all along the road where anyone can just stop and park and camp, build a fire, what not. And the views are absolutely amazing. There are no showers available but there are vault toilets located at major trailheads and in all of the free national forest campgrounds along the roadway.
