Mount Mitchell State Park

I wanted to write this post to make those aware that the Pisgah Forest no longer allows free camping. I went there last night to camp (as I have several items) and the park manager told me they no longer allow free camping and he’s not sure if they ever will again. I couldn’t find this disclosed anywhere on their website either.

A man gave his life to get his name on this mountain, or rather, a man's name was given the mountain thanks to the fact that he fought hard to get it listed as the highest and then kind of done went and fell off of a cliff when he was going back to prove it.

Though Reserve America will tell you otherwise, from what we saw (this was several years ago), nothing more than a small van could ever fit here. It's primarily for tenting, which is what we did, for one ridiculously cold Autumn night. If I hadn't knocked a few back we probably would have left as at the time we lived relatively close to here, and our house had the ability to flip a switch and magically defeat all of Old Man Winter's most dastardly deeds.

No cell reception whatsoever, but again this was maybe five years ago now.
