The drive to the camping area got very rocky at points and took a while to get there from the main road. I suggest an offroad vehicle of sorts, I passed a smaller sedan on my way out and thought that was a very risky vehicle choice for this terrain.
However, the drive up Moose River Rd was very scenic, the light peaked in every now and then through the trees, and the changing leaves were beautiful and made it all worth it.
I didn't drive too far back but the sites I passed towards the beginning of the camping corridor had outhouses, but don't expect anything nice.
I had no cell service here at all, however, I did get a bar or two while driving back down to the main roads but if you need the reception the town of Inlet is about five minutes away and Old Forge is about twenty, and both are beautiful.
Because of the stormy weather, I didn't check out much else here but there were many trails and plenty more campsites if I kept going down the road further. Because it was so gross out I didn't get any pictures of the campsites but of course on my way down the sun came out and got a few on my way out.
Will definitely be going back when the weather is better!

The sites are quite spread out and unless your neighbors have loud children (like ours did on this trip), you won’t hear anyone. Most sites are capable of taking a 20-30’ camper. Also, word of caution, they sell a lot of firewood in this area, and most of what we’ve bought from roadside stands has been almost unburnable due to being too freshly cut.

It has been a very long time since I tent camped because I don't like staying in places where the next tent is 10 feet away. This place felt like an honest-to-goodness middle of nowhere experience while still providing a fire pit, picnic table, and outhouse. We were right next to the river, so we were able to fish and get fresh water and the woods afforded us some fallen wood to burn. The fact that it is free is also icing on the cake. There are so many trails and it was so relaxing. There is no phone service, so be prepared to find relaxation from the outside world. It got me itching to camp some more. You will need to drive slow on the road because it has some large rocks and holes, but overall we were in a Subaru and made it in fine. Best free adventure ever!

Enjoyed the stay but the road going in from Inlet is a real bear. We have an 18 ft. R-pod and we made it in and out but I think it took a few months off its life expectancy, rocky, a few ruts, and hills. Enter At Your Own Risk.😊

Something came up to my vehicle throughout the entire night and chewed on my camp wood so be mindful of animals. I started my car and revved the engine to scare it because the wood was under my car and it was back in less than 5 minutes so these animals are used to humans. Other than that I would stay here again. The sheer number of sites is amazing. Plenty to choose from but the road is quite long. About 2 hours before I reached the end so I would have a GPS handy just in case

This was a beautiful area to camp. A great boondocking experience. The perfect place to go if you want to unplug for a few days. Our site was nice and flat with a fire pit, picnic table, and outhouse. We had good sun during the day so our solar worked without issue. We drove to a couple of beautiful ponds near us. It was a short walk to each from the trail head and would be easily kayak or canoe accessible.
We camped here 3 nights in site 52 which is right at the 10 mile marker when coming in from Inlet, NY. The road in was hard packed gravel and dirt. We towed in our 30' Keystone X-lite 5th wheel. For the most part the tow in was pretty easy with a couple of steeper inclines. The canopy over the road is mostly trimmed back with a little swerving necessary. I would not suggest going in with a rig much bigger than ours.
When we left we towed out to Cedar River Flow, so in all we towed the rig the entire 22 miles of dirt road. Though longer I would say the tow in from Cedar River Flow is a little easier.
We were basically right in the middle so driving out was at least an hour either way to get to town. There are spots closer to both entrances so it may be worth scouting.
We did talk to a Forest Service Officer who said things are busier than normal, most likely due to Covid. She provided us a nice map and laid out the site numbers for us. Her favorite site is 87 which sits right on a brook. Her suggestion to having a better selection of sites is to come in mid-week or Sunday afternoon. She also mentioned people camping here are able to bring their trash to the Inlet Transfer Station for disposal. This tidbit of info is not posted anywhere at this time. Since it is a pack it in pack it out type place this could be useful. Much better than leaving your trash behind (please don't).
We would definitely camp here again.

The drive in from Cedar River Flow was about 20 miles from Route 32 before you started seeing sites...and there are many. We finally settled on 64 which was perfect. Two tents, trees to hang our hammocks, fire pit and even had some firewood left by last occupants, and a Pit toilet and picnic table. Very quiet, and serene. Ranger came by and introduced himself, nice chap and quite young. We enjoyed our stay. Roads in are pretty bumpy and full of roots in some places. I can't see Class A RV's making it in here but Trailers and and small RV's should fair well. Will definitely be paying another visit here...it's huge! Lot's of trails to hike, fish to catch, if you have horses, bring them along, biking...carry out what you bring in.

There are two entrances to the main camping area, one on Limekiln Lake Road in Inlet, and one on Cedar River Rd in Indian Lake. There are also quite a few spots outside of this main area, a few are right on the main road (route 28) near Raquette Lake. The roads are well maintained but do have rocks and potholes and can get muddy so just be prepared. From either entrance it takes a good 20-30 minutes to actually get to sites, and you could house hunt for literal days, the spots are all different and wonderful. No phone reception anywhere that I was. There are trails everywhere and lots of bodies of water to explore. Enjoy!!
