Overall Rating

We were there in August 2022. The campground was empty but people left lots of garbage! Sad! None of the sites were large enough for our 32 foot class C. We have a mining claim farther up Mill Creek and stay there every summer. I agree with the other commentor that you do not want to take a car or anything small much further than the Old Smugglers Mine site. That being said, the lake that feeds Mill Creek sits in an old volcano crater about sixteen mile past Smugglers Mill and is very much worth the travel. Several camping sites there as well. Simply beautiful! Yes there are bears all over the area, we saw several while there but they stayed away.

Overall Rating

An old forest service campground. It is close to Sheridan for it is easy to get supplies. Only has hand pumps for water. Also, there was only one site large enough for a small trailer. All other sites were for tents or campers. The campground appears to be available for camping year around. There is no gate that can close access. Remains of the Smuggler Mine are about one mile past the campground and is fun to visit. Do not plan on driving a car any further on the road than the Smuggler Mine. I would recommend a truck.
