“Beautiful area for boondocking”

Reviewed May 23, 2018

Overall Rating

This is a very easily accessible campground located on a beautiful fishing lake, only 10 miles from the interstate. I was totally in love with the place. We were the only campers but there were quite a few people in the area who would stop by and fish from the shore. The water was clean and I went for a swim which was nice (if you don't think too much about how many fish are there! lol). There were two loops to the campground. The second loop had pit toilets and a large garbage can. There was also a large dumpster at the entrance to the campground. There was a lot of helicopter activity from the nearby military site for entertainment. As well as a closed off road off the second loop that goes for about 2km for a nice place to walk/run. There were fire pits at each site but no picnic tables.

I'd say the one shortcoming was that there was quite a bit of garbage at the site we chose by the trees. I picked up a full garbage bag of garbage from in the trees and on the beach near our site. Anyone with kiddos should make sure they have water shoes or something to protect their feet just in case of broken glass. The campground is well attended otherwise and the actual sites were clean, but whoever takes care of it obviously isn't going in the bushes or paths down to the lake.

“Free camping, no amenities, pretty lake”

Reviewed Apr 18, 2018

Overall Rating

We stayed for 3 nights. It was fairly quiet out here it is right next to Fort Riley so you will here some noise from that. There is water front access and vaulted toilets. There is plenty of spots for fishing, lots of ducks. A few fire rings are placed about and there is a trash can at the toilets as well as a large dumpster on the way out. All in all it was a very nice place for free camping. The only bad thing is I think people may have been living out here we had a lot of clean up to do when we first got here.
