Campers at the Midway Campground in the Imperial Sand Dunes are mostly dune enthusiasts. We camp here to be close to the dunes but far enough away to get a little peace and quite. The camping area runs parallel with the highway but the noise isn't too bad.

We like the "campground" because we can ride our RZR from camp. The campground is a road that everyone parks parallel with views of a sand highway, dunes, border fence and views into Mexico. There are several clean vault toilets and garbage dumpsters across the road that come in handy when staying for several days.

A permit is required to stay and can be purchased on site or off site at area gas stations for a reduced price. I think off site is $35 for 7 days and $40 on site.

The area is safe as there are lots of border patrol driving around and a few rangers. If you're riding in the dunes you can access Gordons Well and Glamis from this camping area without loading up to get over the freeway. There is a bridge that they allow OHV's to drive over.

We stay here almost every New Years and have fun exploring the dunes and taking trips into Yuma. A border crossing into Mexico is also only a few miles away.
