Does anyone know if you can park there on Mondays when they are closed?…thinking it might be gated.

I will say that there is deisel engine running across the field all night for some kind of power station that I found annoying until I made peace with and let the sound lull me to sleep. A spectacular thunder storm rolled through, lightning and loud, loud thunder - kinda cool. I'm from out west and we don't get that kind of light show very often. Small town off a mostly two lane highway and I cut across 3 states in a day. NM, Texas, Oklahoma, and finally into Kansas. I thought it was a more pleasant ride than going up 35 to hit 70.

Unfortunately we got in right before closing and were gone before they opened the next morning. There was a weird high school kid group that showed up just before sunset doing doughnuts in their pick up trucks in the large parking lot, aside from that it felt safe and honestly it looked mostly like the kids were bored.

When we stopped in Liberal to visit the Mid-America Air Museum in late October, we had planned to stay at the nearby fairgrounds (with hookup sites). But when we signed the museum register, I noticed that they were a Harvest Host member. When I told them we were in an RV, but not HH members, they invited us to stay free anyway. Since it was only a couple of hours until closing time, we gladly accepted. Parked at the back of the asphalt parking lot next to the airport boundary fence, left the slide and back Jack's closed, and ate dinner while watching the sunset behind the trees across the runway. Had a quiet night as the only RVers there and left at 8:30 the next morning before the museum opened. Great museum exhibits, helpful museum staff, and a wonderful dry camping experience.

This WWII B-24 traing field and current aircraft museum is well worth a detour to Liberal, KS. The aircraft collection is very impressive, although they have a B-25 gunship instead of a B-24. As my dad was a WWII B-24 pilot who trained in OK, not KS,, the massive photo-story of the training was fascinating.
