Overview of Medix Run Road Designated Dispersed Campsite 5

Camping is only allowed at designated campsites in Moshannon State Forest. Reservations and permits are required and can be made online or over the phone. Campfires are prohibited from March 1 - May 25 without authorization from the District Forester.

Black bears frequent the area. When not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in a bear-proof storage container.

Overall Rating

The sites are clean and along Medix Run (creek). No tables, no toilets, have rock fire rings. You can take your pick of 2 hiking trails, Bear Run and Quahanna. Plenty of wild life. We saw Momma bear and cub, turkey, deer, snake, salamander, fish, pair of bald eagle's and great blue herons to name a few. I would say site 5 is the best site. Each site is a good distance from each other so you shouldn't hear your neighbors unless they are rude. You are right along the road which can be busy on weekends but weekdays are pretty quiet. Call ahead for a camping permit. No phone service for anyone.
