This park is in no way ADA accessible. The hard surface trail is broken and contains difficult grade in some places. The Upper Falls can be reached by wheelchair but only if you go down a steep hill; it is too steep to climb with a scooter. The trees are so grown around the river that it is almost impossible to find a suitable place to fish. There are many fishing lures hanging from the trees.
We camped at for 1 week. The bath house is not ADA and the water pressure in the shower was horrible. I could not rinse the soap out of my hair. The site itself was very large and shaded. Much larger than we have seen in most state parks. Very beautiful scenery and wildlife.
This park has so much natural beauty it is difficult to get around unless you can walk or bicycle. There are no cut thru or easy routes to access this parks beautiful features. We saw many deer, wild turkeys, birds, etc. The falls are gorgeous but were not flowing well in March. If you choose to bicycle, there are no bicycle racks for you bikes. Many ended up just lying them down on the ground.

Easily my least favorite state park in Texas. Go the distance to brazos south of Houston for a real state park. I had a very rude attendant at the gate because we showed up an hour early before check in (every other state park let us check in early or was more than accommodating). They told us to go find a spot to park and come back without checking to see if our spot was ready, also didn’t give us a map to see where we could park. Trails are unkept and need some love. Bathrooms are neglected and are too gross to shower in. It seems that most campers here do not have any Etiquette (very loud music, Kids running through your camp site, dogs barking, giant RC race cars being raced around the park). Overall a bad vibe and I think people just rate it well bc of its proximity to Austin.

Lots of day use traffic. The Park allows delivery of mail and packages to their office!! On Sunday arrival we were told we could not go to the site before 2pm check-in but we could wait in the day use parking area. There is some road noise so consider staying away from the State Park Rd.

We were surprised about the condition of some of the facilities, as they were not as nice as we are used in Colorado State Parks. Bathrooms were sufficient, but nothing to write home about. Roads were in poor condition with lots of cracking asphalt. Signage is very poor if you are there after dark. We arrived after dinner and found the signs very difficult to read.
The falls are really neat and although I didn't cross the falls for a longer hike due to weather, it seems like a cool thing to do. The Onion Creek trail was more like an aging bike path with cracked concrete/asphalt. I would have preferred biking on a dirt path than the bumpy and uneven 'pavement.'

We loved our stay here. We stayed in a pull through site in the Big Oak camping area with electric and water. Some campsites are remote and you can’t see your neighbors, some are a little more visible to your neighbors. This one is more visible, but there is good spacing between sites, so it’s not like you are looking in your neighbors window. There are also lots of trees for shade and privacy but you will occasionally faintly hear the sounds of the city: sirens, traffic, etc... There are good hiking trails and good natural swimming holes. We’re camping during December, so not too crowded, but during the summer this place gets crowded because it’s a nature getaway in the city. Because it’s in the city, we had good cell service for both Verizon and ATT. Verizon was stronger and showed 5 bars at a 5G connection. ATT toggled between 2-3 bars. Our OTA antenna picked up 36 channels.

But it's pretty, and they have a dump station, and you are in freakin' Austin, which is just about the town in Texas.

Sites are well-maintained and most are pretty flat. Firewood for sale in lockers. Clean bathrooms. Lots to do in the park. Swimming, fishing, camping fun! Really enjoyed my couple of days. In my opinion, this is one of the best parks in the state. It is close to Austin if you want to see the city.
It can be quite expensive to stay in the state parks without a pass in TX. While you don’t absolutely have to have a state park pass to camp, you’ll save the equivalent of the $75 cost after one or two camping trips. Between this and my planned Labor Day excursion, I’ve already saved more than the cost of the pass.
