Any recommendations for site with shade at Maumee Bay State Park Campground? We tent camp and full sun can be brutal.

We have camped all over the US and never seen so many people not wave or say hi while walking or riding bikes. It’s seems that if you’re under the age of 65 with kids you’re not as welcomed at this park by the campers mostly from Ohio. Price was good and sites are very nice, just grumpy people.

That’s the question I had before I got here, but I have it now, and it’s well deserved! It’s because in every other respect this beautiful state park sets a very high standard. When they made this place they obviously had a lot of land to work with, and you see that in the spaciousness of all the facilities. The sites are all very large and are well landscaped to separate each from the other. Many, if not all, are paved. There was good cell service with ATT. $5 single and tandem bike rentals are encouraged, because that way you can drive on flat land around the spacious park to the beach and then to the nature center, where there is a short boardwalk loop with lots of birds. Rest rooms are fine. Staff was very friendly. Cheap firewood. Toledo is not far, and their Museum of Art is well worth a visit. Maybe catch a Mud Hens game downtown. This park is not a secret to those in the know. There are a good number sites, but many were filled, even during the week.

Sites were spacious with little shade. You definitely have to watch for kids and dogs on the driveways. Large park so when you leave, hopefully everyone else in the park is not leaving at the same time as a really long line forms for the dump station. The most negative feature in this park is that none of the sites have water hook-up (except of course the full hook-up sites). You have to put water in your fresh water tank. This can be very inconvenient for a longer stay because you would have to hook-up, drive up to the dump station and dump your gray water tank. Also, is a waste of water when you leave because we do not travel with water in our fresh water tank so therefore we had to dump good fresh water from our fresh water tank. They seem to have a problem with dogs running loose. Large park with lots of trails, bike trails and bird watching. Delicious Hungarian hot dogs at Tony Packo's restaurant (Front Street) is about 6 miles from the park.

Highly recommend. The campground is part of a larger complex on Lake Erie with clean beaches, a conference center, miles of bike trails, and wildlife areas. It's hard to go wrong with RV sites here; virtually all of the ones we saw had new shore power hookups (50 and 30 amp), asphalt pads, and large private and landscaped lots. Water fill-ups are at various points around the campground. The dump station and dumpsters are at the entry point for the campground. Bike rentals are available at the the well-stacked camp store, which also is at the campground entrance.
May flies can be expected in May and June. They are harmless but get a tad annoying at dawn and dusk, but are a minor inconvenience.

Tons of good size sites, most have a good amount of privacy. While we were here they had activities for the family (crafts, coffee/donuts in the morning, ice cream social in the evening). Playgrounds are wonderful for the kids. Staff was friendly.

Sites are large, level, and grassy with vegetation barriers between sites with mowed buddy site access at back of each site. Shower houses are limited but modern and clean.
Sunday morning’s line at the dump station can get very backed up!

We agree with the other reviewers -- this is a great park.
We asked for site 102. We pulled our Class A motorhome in forward to get a great water view through the windshield, (but make sure you have an extension cord for power).

Camping during Covid-19 so not using restrooms or showers but peeking in for a look around they seem well maintained. Great biking and walking in campground.
