Free after labour day. All other campsites around closed but they don’t tell you until you are down a road. A sign at the entry would be held. Anyway Matchless is just a parking lot but worked well for a late pull in. Washrooms clean and all very quiet

Hosts Alyssa & Jason were friendly, capable, & well-organized. Our site had been raked and fire pit cleaned prior to our move-in. We had no reservations, but arrived Sunday morning at 10 to look for early check-outs and were successful. ($12 per night after senior discount.) They had to close every other site for COVID-precautions, so we felt fortunate. While #15 is directly adjacent to the back of the restroom, we faced the lake and enjoyed the constantly changing colors and looks of the mountains and lake. The conifers between the rig and the lake broke some of the wind. The campground afforded great privacy but was also very friendly. There is so much to do here—hiking, biking, boating, or just vegging at one of the beaches. A very special place! Bring warm clothes, sun lotion, and bug repellent and you will be comfy! Drinking water available at boat ramp. We chose to use dump station in Leadville.

Checked out the upper more crowded lot, it does not have much of a view but does have tables and fire rings. NO Verizon data
We then circled down to the lower lot, even though someone here thought it was not for RVs, and wow 25 Mb/s ATT download, with just the phone!
Via MOFI 4500, ATT is LTE 4 bars, Verizon is LTE 1 bar.
Sites are maybe 35' long, but there is so much room in the middle longer rigs are fine.

Currently the campground is free after labor day and then completely closes around Oct 2nd (normally during the summer there is a fee). The camp host leaves after labor day and the concessionier that runs the place for the forest service let's folks overnight for free. It's kind of a fishing access with a boat ramp. There was a guy stationed at the boat ramp each day in order to check boats for invasive species and the spray off the boats. He also sold firewood. We had a really pleasant time. There is a hike that goes to the other campgrounds on the east side of the lake. It's basically two big parking lots. The upper lot has tables and grills off the sides of the lot. You could put up a tent in this area, it looks like. There is also the boat ramp lot, but you can't camp in it as they lock a gate to that lot at night. There is a lot just above the boat ramp lot but you can only vehicle camp in it, it looks like. There are great views here. There was one vault toilet open in the upper lot while we were there. No trash or water in the off season.
