Martin Dies Jr. State park was my first outing with my new Airstream.
It was an hour away. Campsite #9 was close enough to the water that I could launch the canoe right from my campsite. The rest rooms were clean, there was a fishing pier and the canoeing opportunities were plentiful.

If you enjoy biking and kayaking/canoeing then you will like this park. It has two sections on opposite sides of the road located on BA Steinhagen reservoir. We would recommend staying on the Walnut Ridge side and prefer sites 117-122 as they are large and on the water. This park has some swampy areas so would recommend mosquito spray when coming in late spring and summer, however we did not have any at spring break in March. You are close to the town of Jasper were there is shopping for groceries and restaurants.
Tentless Texans would stay here again
