Great stopover. Easy access frim Rte 24/exit 88. Lovely lake views. Level site (using IPhone level). Good luck to the new management as they make much needed renovations around the campground. We are sellf-contained, so no review on the bath house or toilet facilities. This is a lovely place that will only improve in the near future!
P would stay here again

Now the bath houses are filthy and it’s such a shame because this park deserves better. There was Skoal tobacco spit on the walls that stayed there the 3 days we were there. The toilet seat looks like a nightmare. We were on Loop A. Someone defacated in the shower of the bathhouse next to the swimming area which was horrible. Probably because the toilet was full of you know what and couldn’t flush. C’mon camp host. Get your act together. 1 star for cleanliness.
Virtually no cellphone service except maybe 1 bar by the lake if you’re really lucky.

The flush toilets and hot shower faculties function however they are sorely in need of updating, Othet than this I found Marathon Lake to be ideal for an overnight or a longer stay, While I was there out of the 34 sites only a third were occupied making the area very quiet except for the sounds of nature.
There a on site camp host who can make local calls if needed. Otherwise unless you have a satellite phone there is no reception. A pleasant addition to the overall quiet.
Be sure to use bug repellent the "No see ums" were very active in June 2017.

On the way to Georgia from Texas, I looked for campsites in the National Forests. I found Marathon Lake in Bienville National Forest not far from Jackson, Mississippi. The campsites were not very private but when we were there, only about 1/4 of the campsites were taken. The site we had was level and clean and a short walk to the water. For those of us who are geocachers, there are several in the campgrounds, within walking distance from campsites. The bugs, frogs & toads were very loud that night but we loved it. The only noise in the park.
