Great spot right outside downtown Red River.
The sign in the photos was useful to confirm. Long rocky uphill climb. Not too challenging. I used 4 high mainly to not kick up rocks.
There is first an easy lot on the right that looked more like a UTV staging area when I passed. Photos show people camping there also. If you are towing a camper, park here and scout ahead. There is no easy turn around after this and the road changes significantly. I took a 32 foot camper to the meadow past. I think next time, I would just use the lot I mentioned.
The main meadow is very pretty but also hard to find a level spot.

“Right next to trails!”

Our first trip to Red River, NM did not disappoint! There are spots for big rigs but good luck getting level. The RV campgrounds were not accommodating in allowing us to purchase water. We had to drive out to the next town of Questa to get water from a campground there and then return to Red River. While on the trails in our sxs we discovered Forest Road 134 that had easy access from Questa and plenty of big rig friendly spots next to a creek. If we hadn't have spent so much time trying to find water and then getting leveled, we might have moved to that location. Otherwise, LOVE it here!

Follow directions to GPS coordinate in the description. The road is gravel and uphill grade. It seems well maintained. There is a photo of the road sign to confirm you are on the correct FS road.
You will pass a city park on the left and about 3/4 mile further there is a flat parking lot. There were no campers in it when I passed, but photos show people camping there.
If you are towing or not in a 4WD, park here and scout ahead. Past this lot, the road is much more challenging and the meadow is pretty but hard to find a level spot.
I was able to tow a 32 foot camper to the meadow, but wouldn't do it without scouting first and knowing if your setup will make it.
