Best thing about the park is the community fire. Moring fire is a time when coffee is made over the hardwood fire. Many of the campers gather and share a morning coffee. This is a lot of fun. Evening fire and the campers gather again. People from all over the world meet at the fire. One day I went to town early and missed morning coffee at the fire gathering. When I got back a neighbor brought me a delicious home made blueberry crepe she made and shared with the campers. That was great. There is also every pot and utensils you need at the fire ring to cook for one or one hundred. If ever in the area you MUST stay at Magic River.

We arrived at 4pm hosts come out to help us get set up in our campsite. Invited us to morning coffee by the campfire and pointed out the community room and bathrooms. Very peaceful and welcoming setting.

I like the community campfire where you can have coffee made over the fire with the neighbors. In the evening there is a community camp fire where you can visit with neighbors as well. 2 ponds on the property. We didn’t fish but saw other campers doing so. I heard they caught catfish and bream. Sites are big enough to have a picnic table. Lots of well
Maintained grass. Spots are level, good water pressure and sewer works well. Robert met us when we pulled in and signed us in. He makes coffee in the morning. All good people here. Some are quite the characters and some come back every year. That tells you something. We’ll be back no doubt.

Magic River is a lovely little campground. A large pond fronts the access road. Comfortable benches dot the shoreline, inviting fishers, birders, and daydreamers. The campsites are quiet with partial shade, and they're generously spaced. Newbies have plenty of room to back up. If you have a big rig, call ahead to ensure an accommodating site is available. The bathhouse is old but as clean as can be. An old one room log cabin was rescued and flipped right-side up after a hurricane. It's the place to visit over morning coffee when it rains. On fair weather mornings, meet at the camp hosts' site for conversation, coffee and maybe doughnut holes. Remember to share your Passport America member number for an unusually generous discount. The Verizon signal was plenty good, pay no attention to the reception bars. New Orleans day tripping is about an hour away. I will return.

We planned on staying 4 nights, but extended our stay because we loved it so much. I wish we could have stayed longer. We were on the end with no neighbors. Lots of trees. We were able to hang our hammock. The signal was mediocre. The only negative things I can say is that our site did not have sewer hookups (many others did, but they were taken). Also there was only one shower and could use some updating. The wifi was not good, but the cell phone service was good. Overall we had a great time. I would definitely go back.

We really enjoyed this campground and wish we could have stayed a few more days, but we are on a schedule to get to Florida. There are no reservations, so we hoped we could find a spot on a Saturday. Luckily, we found a pull thru site. It was fairly level but a little muddy due to rain. It had water and 30 amp, but no sewer connection. They do have a dump station and some sites were FHU. We had no neighbors with our spot, but the other sites seemed well spaced. There is a single private restroom/shower for the men and for the women. The women's bathroom was pretty clean but apparently not smoke free. When my daughter and I used it, it smelled like cigarettes and there were 3-4 cigarette butts in the toilet! My husband said the men's restroom/shower was very clean. There is no laundry. They have a small rec room with puzzles and books. There was a telephone that looked like an old school pay phone that my kids enjoyed calling us from. There was a nice playground and community fire pit. I think there is a pool, but we didn't see it. There are 2 ponds and fishing is allowed. My kids and husband swore they saw an alligator in one! (They do have signs warning of alligators, so keep an eye on your kids and pets.) They have WiFi and we had about 3 bars of 4G with Verizon. We heard a couple of helicopters the first evening, but other than that it was pretty quiet. We used our Passport America membership. If you have the time, drive Hwy 90 to some of the adjacent coastal towns!

This campground is the headquarters for Passport America so they brought all of our membership sign-up things to us. Done and done. We saved the money we spent on the membership that week so a very good deal for us. Very quiet. All of the things mentioned in the previous review Plus, the clubhouse/cabin now has an old school looking payphone and you can call for FREE to US, Canada and Purto Rico. Honest. For free. I'll post the pics. One thing to keep in mind, if the Wolf River nears flood level, then they will have you move. [Flooding is very well monitored so you get days of notice. So if you want to stay for a while, then chose higher ground. Oh, the ponds are very large and fishing is free so bring your pole!
