“High Traffic Area and Overwhelming Dust”

We picked this BLM area for the proximity for hiking the Colorado Trail. We planned to stay a few days but packed up after one night.
This is a small, unlevel, rocky dirt parking lot with heavy use for those that like to camp and 4X4/OHV. The road back to the camping area was a bit wash board (3-4 miles) but otherwise was really good. This road was part of the famous OHV Alpine Loop so it was a constant stream of OHV and jeeps all day long, which filled the valley and the campsite with a thick haze of dirt/dust by 9am.
We squeezed in a space close to the road which didn’t help. If you can find a spot further off the road that would help, but most people staying here were also kicking up dirt with there OHV/jeeps within the camping area.
The proximity to Silverton was great and we enjoyed getting food there, but it is definitely a dusty OHV town where everyone uses their side-by-sides to get around town.
This location had zero Verizon cell/data coverage.
If you want a place to 4X4/OHV this is your place for some of the most amazing trails to old mines, Stony Pass, Maggie Gulch and The Alpine Loop. If you are looking for a tranquil camping experience look somewhere else.

“6/19/19 No Trespassing signs”

As of 6/19/19, someone has blocked off part of the campsite and posted several No Trespassing signs.
I camped here for 4 nights, arriving on 6/16 to a somewhat full campsite. Some people left the next morning, they blocked off the road that afternoon, then posted the signs last night.
It's a nice spot on a creek with views of the valley/mountains and room for a few small rigs and tent camping. But don't count on it being available at the moment!
jim would stay here again
