Overall Rating

I love Madrone and Chirpchatter (about 5 miles apart) campgrounds but they are tough to get into. We have taken our 16 foot toy-hauler in and out of Chirpchatter from the Gilman side of Fenders Ferry several times over the past few years. Each year the road gets rougher and rougher. And, you can easily get lost with so many logging roads as the road into Madrone is not well marked from the Gilman side. From the Hwy 299 side, we heard it was impassable after a rough winter a couple years back. The road was rough that way too going in before the storm that wiped out the road and I doubt it will get better anytime soon.
But, if you have 4wd and a sense of adventure these camps are awesome. Great fishing at both campgrounds and you will likely find seclusion. Lots of great ohv opportunities as well. In the heart of the wilderness there is something for everyone.

“Beautiful but Terrifying drive.”

noted 3/10/2024

Beautiful but terrifying drive. My husband and I attempted to take our 20ft camper and gave up after 2.5 hrs of trying to navigate the narrow road. We were about 6 miles shy of the destination. I have to admit there scenery is beautiful when you not clenching the door handle for dear life.
