We really enjoyed our two nights stay. The stars are beautiful at night. It was very quiet as there was only a few people there. Quick walk or drive to the lake no matter which campsite you stay at. We stayed at site 42 and loved it! The only thing I was disappointed in was some of the trails were closed off for the winter, and we didn’t know it until we had walked all the way up to the gate. Just keep that in mind during the winter, some of the restrooms are closed and some of the dumpsters are closed. We didn’t mind walking the extra walk, but some people might. Like mentioned before the water is not for drinking at this time due to iron in it, but we bring our own bottled water. It didn’t bother us, but it may bother others. We loved hearing the coyotes late at night. We are definitely going to stay here again!

Hiking is good and if you have a kayak or small boat, you will probably have more fun. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. The water level is very low. I would love to see it when (and if) it fills again. If your looking for a place to just chill for a few days, this is it. Bring some DVD,'s for the kids. No local TV stations. Very spotty WiFi and cell service with TMobile. Seemed to change with time of day. We have a cell booster but no WiFi booster. Its a bit of a drive to stores of any size so bring everything you need. Bring your own drinking water too.

This Campground is nice to recharge your batteries from travel. Currently it is in the 30's at night and 70's during the day. There are few campers here. The hikes are nice and well groomed. I am in a water and electric only site with my trailer. However, there are a couple full hook up sites. St Johns and Springerville are just minutes away. There is gas in each location. The staff is nice and helpful. There is a small camp store with wood, water, and some food. I just came from the border where it was hot and dusty. This is a nice change. There are showers if you need them. The petroglyphs are cool to see as you can get very close.
The cell coverage changes based on your location within the grounds. I am able to stream Netflix and Apple TV without much interruption.

This place was absolutely gorgeous. One of my favorite places we have stayed on our travels. They have beautiful hiking trails that take you to the top of a little mountain that overlooks the large lake. Breathtaking. We tried to swim in the lake but the water was freezing lol. Good cell service in the back of the park, but very spotty in the front of the park. No laundry facilities, but they do have showers/ bathrooms that were pretty typical of a state park (a little old and look out for bugs). A few FHU sites but lots of dry camping and W/E only sites. Very cute little general store at the park. Overall, would definitely stay again.

There are shade trees and each site has a nice Ramada as well as a fire pit and a grill. Fires were prohibited during our stay because of the wind and dryness.
An added treat is a nice hike to some petryoglyphs. The lake is reasonably large and can accommodate motor boats but there were few in evidence during our stay. The rangers and camp host were very personable and helpful and kept the bathrooms and sites clean.
Typical of so many public parks, the showers were poorly designed with few options for hanging or placing clothing and toiletries. I keep wishing that the people who design these could spend a month showering in the spaces they design.
