“quiet night under dark skies, just hours from the twin cities”

Stayed in the south campground, just because it was going to be very sunny, and the north campground had no shade. The south campground has warm showers and vault toilets, but does offer electric sites, and access to lots of walking and horse trails.

The day use area restrooms are closed, and the buildings did seem to be dated. The campground was about half full this weekend (the fishing opener in Minnesota) and the vault toilets ran out of toilet paper, even though they where serviced daily by the park. The entrance stations are unmanned, but the Park Office was staffed during Office Hours.

The state parks have gone to 100% reservations required for all state parks this year, and you can do same day reservations by phone or internet, which they claim is making it easier access for all - but it seems they are also using it to reduce staffing levels...

Campsite are very large, and noise was non-existent during quiet hours. Outside of quite hours, the sound of children playing is evident, but not distracting. With the campground being less than 1/2 mile from the road, I did not hear traffic at night - only the neighboring cows in the distance.
