This is first-come, first-serve only for the ten sites in the campground. Payable by cash or check only in the envelopes provided. We arrived on July 1st around noon and had our pick of most of the campground. We chose site 3 because it was fairly level and backed right up to the Roaring Fork River. It was a smooth rocky creek area, perfect for our young kids to play in. Almost all sites are mostly shaded until later in the day, making for very cold mornings hanging out at the campground. Our small camper trailer fit well, and most of the sites would fit small to medium RVs. We saw lots of tent campers too. After three nights we decided to stay longer and moved to site 6 just for a change of scenery. It had multiple elevation areas and still backed up to the River. The toilets were maintained daily and clean. Water is available from the pump. Lost Man Trailhead is across the road and well-used. I hiked/trail ran a couple of times- the trail and its views were beautiful! I would definitely recommend hiking it a mile or two for fun. (Right down the road is a Horse Rides sign. I recommend stopping in and seeing if they have availability because I talked to a trail ride out one day on the Lost Man Trail and their ride was gorgeous.) Aspen was a thirty-minute drive. If you’re taking a camper, drive in from Aspen, as anything over 35 feet is not allowed further up on Independence Pass. My only complaint is that the nights and mornings were very cold, but I’m a cold weather wimp. 😁 No cell service whatsoever anywhere in the area.
Tara would stay here again
