The sand isn't too soft, but you can still get stuck. We helped an airstream get unstuck and of course the Wandrly crew's bus got stuck too. The real problem is that this place is overrun by gringos and their ATV's. All day they will be running up and down the beach. There is a large expat and gringo population here, so much so that it almost feels like Florida. And that's not a compliment. Its a really nice little town and the locals are fantastic, the food is great, I just wish that the people who come here to spend their winters tried a little harder to respect the culture instead of just take over the town with their own culture. If you can look past all that, its a great spot. On the beach, walking distance to town and great Telcel LTE.

“La Playa: noun. The beach. While almost guaranteeing epic sunrises or sets, depending on which side of Baja you find yourself, they will also likely smell like pee and have too much trash for one family to pick up.”

A five minute walk to a town full of restaurants serving everything from the standard fish tacos to pizza to iced lattes to sushi and more. The town of Los Barriles is maybe 50/50 as far as locals to ex-pats go, but we find it a wonderful mix of people who've either been born here and speak enough English to make for beautiful chatter about what life in Mexico is like for them or have moved here to escape the northern two countries of this continent.
The beach itself was in pristine shape when we first visited...but alas after Santa Semana (Mexican Easter / Spring Break) we returned to find tons of trash, cigarettes butts, egg shells and orange peels everywhere. Quite disappointing because this is a great beach for swimming or just kicking it Sea of Cortez style in your cut off jean shorts and sunburned knee caps.
There are also a lot of people driving ATVs up and down the beach, which we didn't mind but know that others won't appreciate, especially as these four-wheelers are often carrying beers, loud, and relentlessly close to your site when they cruise up and down the beach, skipping the road here in favor of driving right near the beach where you want to kick around in the sand and let the kids run wild without being killed by drunk off-roaders. The occasional batch of locals will show up at 3am and throw a 30 minute party, loud music and beer cans left behind and all, too, so that's what I call good, clean fun!
It's free though, and much better than the two RV parks in town which have room for overnighters in my opinion, humble as it may not be!

Pretty good beach camping just outside of town. Easy enough walk into town for food, shopping, sight-seeing, etc. The waters are great. When we arrived at Cabo Pulmo, we arrived freshly showered. Or, at least we got to shower within the past 24 hours of that day, which is pretty freshly showered by our definition. We spent a week in...
