This campground was built by the Mosaic which is logging company. A local told me that Mosaic had over logged some of the surrounding area and annoyed a sector of the population so they built a few campgrounds to make peace. The road in is a bit steep but once you get over the short grade, you will be fine. The campground is almost brand new and shows little signs of use. Roads and sites are well graveled and the picnic tables are still varnished and in perfect condition. Cell coverage was fair with 1-2 bars with Verizon throughout the park. Loon Lake is beautiful and calm. A real feast of all your senses. We we could see several people fishing from small boats, or from the dock and we were told the fishing was good.

There is a nice trail that goes around both Loon Lake and the neighboring Summit Lake. Mosaic installed a number of placards that are veiled Mosaic advertisements and logging industry marketing. The trails can use a bit of maintenance as the vegetation has encroached to the point that you are brushing through bushes at several points. The trails are marked with magic markers written on small plastic signs which are starting to fade and hard to read. The trail on the south side of the lakes is an old train track which include three trestles that will likely intimidate the casual hiker and/or their pets. The north side trail has a cutoff to a nice island.

Booking the site was the quirky part. The Mosaic reservation website requires you to reserve at least three days in advance and a minimum of two days. Also the detailed description of the sites is overly conservative stating that trailers mut be under 30 feet and there is no room for an extra vehicle. Hoverer, we had no problem parking both our 36 ft RV and our Jeep tow vehicle at site 13. There were many larger sites. We walked the campground and have no doubt you could park a 40 foot RV at site 1,2, 4, 8, 14, 15 or 22.

The good news is that this contributes to the high vacancy rate and an incredibly quiet stay. If the website shows booked, the odds are better than good that you can show up, pay the camp host $24 and settle in wherever you please.
