“Beautiful beach with a very crowded campground”

Reviewed Jan 16, 2017

Overall Rating

We stayed here one night on our way across Ontario Province in September of 2016. We were excited to visit Lake Erie, and had read good things about this park online/ seen images of its lovely beaches.

Unfortunately our experience wasn't the best. Campsites tended towards the smaller side which meant we were pushing the limit in terms of maneuverability with our bus. Smaller vehicles, trailers, and tent campers would be fine. The on-site electric hookups are actually communal, meaning that there may be one power station for several sites to share. Our usual 30amp electrical cord proved to be too short for this set-up in most sites and we had to change locations to find a good fit.

One of the things that struck me the most was just how crowded and packed this campsite was when we visited.(I guess we just hit it at the height of the summer vacationing season. Perhaps it would be different at another time during the year.) It felt a bit like we were packed in like sardines, and while there are some campsites interspersed throughout the trees with slightly more privacy, many areas don't offer any buffer between sites.

Okay, that's the negative side. On the positive side, the lake itself is truly beautiful. Calm waters, clean beachfront, great swimming and recreation opportunities, pretty sunsets.

“Beautiful Provincial Park campground on the Long Point Peninsula ”

Reviewed May 01, 2016

Overall Rating

We stay at Long Point at least once a year - it's our favourite summer holiday spot. The Park is nestled amongst the dunes on the Long Point Peninsula on the northern shore of Lake Erie. The park is extremely popular with families, many of which have been coming there for generations, so book well in advance.

About 1/3 of the available sites have 30 amp power, the remainder are primitive sites, separated by vegetation. The closer the sites are to the dunes, the more inaccessible they become for RVs - although we have seen more than one VW Syncro bus parked underneath the pines.

Longer rigs are accommodated closer to the main path. The northern sites offer very little privacy, the sites to the south are a little more spacious and also more private, with dense vegetation between sites.

Shower and comfort stations are spotless and cleaned twice a day. Laundry facilities are stocked with new appliances and also very clean. We tend to do our entire laundry on the last day of a holiday, so we have everything in the Airstream for our next trip without having to carry laundry back home.

The main reason to visit the park is the spectacular beach. Even during high season, it is never too busy. A sandbank about 300 ft off the beach creates a safe and calm natural swimming pool for kids, with warm and shallow water.

Firewood is available at the camp store, supermarkets and gas are a 20 minute drive away. Cell service on both Rogers and Bell is ok, but not great.
