There were lakefront spots that were absolutely gorgeous but we have a 35 ‘ motorhome and tow dolly and had family joining us and setting up 2 tents so this spot was nice and big and could accommodate all our gear etc...

Suggestion: arrive on mon/tue if you plan to get a lakeside walkup site. Compground was full by Fri afternoon. Water faucet closest to the campground host has threads so a hose can be attached.

We stayed here right at the end of their season in late September. The camp host was extremely helpful and took impeccable care of the sites. I've never been to a forest service campground so well taken care of. The where the fire pits were emptied out, all gravel raked, and pit toilets stocked+clean. The lake front sites have beautiful views and water access. There are a couple electric sites here, too. They are only an extra $7/night. There's no dump station here, but there are water spigots throughout the loop for filling up water (not threaded).
My only complaint is the policy on vehicles. The nightly rate here is only $16, but there's an additional charge of $7 per extra vehicle. Rather than have a tow dolly for our car, my wife chases behind me while I drive the motorhome. Simply because we don't technically tow our car, we had to pay this fee. The sign and the camphost confirmed that we wouldn't have to pay this if we were towing our car, which I simply cannot see the logic of!
p.s. the season ended on the 4th day or our 6 day stay, so the next 2 nights were free! although they turn off the water & electric and seal up the trash, they still allow camping here for free, as long as you pack in/pack out and keep the sites clean.

Our young family enjoys camping in organized campgrounds that offer more privacy and space. However for a trip to Yellowstone this is a great spot vs. the high density campgrounds found in the park. I had high hopes to snag one of the lake front sites when we arrived based on other reviews claiming that it wasn't crowded and always had some availability. We saw lots of rigs go by during our stay that were unable to get a spot.
We reserved site 20, which initially I was disappointed in since it's right by the bathroom but it turned out to be a pretty good spot. (They were the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen at a campground. I saw the camp host clean them several times a day.) We were able to take a path between sites down to the sandy beach to play. We'll reserve site 21 if it's available next time. The other lake front sites are walk ups and are pretty close together but offer fabulous views. Site 19 was another favorite, it's actually right on the lake even though the map doesn't seem to show that. Locals had snagged those and were staying for the full 2 week max. But you might get lucky if you show up on the right day!
We had a good time and I loved being on the lake. Overall a good little campground.

One of the sites had electric and the other two had no hookups. There were several potable water stations around the campground but you need a water hitchhiker to connect to them. At the main entrance there was a threaded faucet so you could hook to it and fill your holding tank before going into the campground.
Our fifth wheel is almost 41 feet long and we got it into site number 12 with little room to spare. But we enjoyed our stay here.

We camped on a sight that met the beach. We could stargaze from the sand at night! These sites are reasonably spaced - way more room than in Yellowstone. I would absolutely stay here again because it's only about 15 minutes drive from the park entrance and WAY less crowded.
