“Great access to Yellowstone.”

Very nice National Forest campground. Pit toilets, boat launch, water and several sites with electric. Nearly half the sites are waterfront on Hebgen lake. Some sites are spaceous while others are tight. @ 12 miles from the West Yellowstone park entrance. Friendly and welcoming host. Suggestion: arrive on mon/tue if you plan to get a ... more

“Free during off season!”

Tried to camp at Cherry Lake, but road was snowed in (early May). Ended up at Lonesomehurst and had a great experience! Camp host was very helpful. We stayed the night of May 9th, and technically the season didn’t open until May 10th, so we were able to stay for free. Clean vault toilets and trash. No running water at the time, but it ... more

“Close enough to Yellowstone with great lake views”

We stayed here right at the end of their season in late September. The camp host was extremely helpful and took impeccable care of the sites. I've never been to a forest service campground so well taken care of. The where the fire pits were emptied out, all gravel raked, and pit toilets stocked+clean. The lake front sites have beau... more

“Crowded, but not as crowded as Yellowstone”

Reviewed Aug 15, 2018

Overall Rating

Our young family enjoys camping in organized campgrounds that offer more privacy and space. However for a trip to Yellowstone this is a great spot vs. the high density campgrounds found in the park. I had high hopes to snag one of the lake front sites when we arrived based on other reviews claiming that it wasn't crowded and always had... more

We stayed here to prolong our visit to Yellowstone National Park. When we drove into the campground we were greeted by the camp host. We needed three sites as we had three campers. He was very friendly and helpful. He was very accommodating and had three sites we could get on first come first serve. One of the sites had electric a... more

“Very close to Yellowstone. Not as crowded. On the beach!”

Reviewed Jun 23, 2017

After discovering that EVERY campsite in Yellowstone was filled before noon in June, my family decided to venture west of the park. We're so glad we did. Because we found this gem. We camped on a sight that met the beach. We could stargaze from the sand at night! These sites are reasonably spaced - way more room than in Yellowstone. I ... more
