Little Wood River

If it was not for the mosquitoes I would give this place a 5 star. The views were absolutely stunning. Perfect places to look at the stars. The bugs mosquitoes made it unbearable. We ended our trip a day early because of it. We went through 7 cans of off. We had 4 repellent candles going and even an electronic repellent device. Nothing helped unfortunately. The site it’s self was well kept but the bathroom was disgusting.

This is a great little campground and free! We stayed two nights but wish we could have stayed longer. There is a 14 day camping limit here, it's dry camping but there is a drinking water spout available. However be sure to run the spout for quite a while as our water came out brown when we put it directly into our tank. There seems to be a lot of sediment in the lines once it settled in our tank the water ran clear again.

There is a grassy tent section when you first enter the campground with vault toilets available. The RV sites are toward the back of the campground. There are several sites which can accommodate 38-40 ft RV but remainder are for 36 ft or smaller.

We did not have any signal at the campground on our router or phones. The campground is located 11 miles from the main highway. Seven of those are on paved roads, but the last 4 are on a gravel road that is heavily washboarded. On the plus side it only took about 30 minutes to get to Craters of the Moon National Monument.

This is an actual campground, managed by the Bureau of Reclamation. The loop of campsites probably has about 10 sites, which are very nice. Some of the sites are on the bluff above the lake and all sites have lovely trees. It took 3.7 miles of washboard to get to the campground after the pavement turned to dirt, but otherwise the road in is mostly flat and not full of ruts or potholes. I had no service with Verizon, but did get a bar just outside of the campground d when driving back out. Unfortunately it was insanely windy the evening I arrived so I didn’t get out on the water but it looks like it would be a lovely place to get out on a boat or paddle board if it were nice out. Also, when I arrived on Sunday night they had sprinklers on at every campsite that went on all night. At 10PM I gave up on waiting for them to be turned off when the wind shifted and my camper started getting pelted by the sprinkler, and a drive through the loop showed that all of the campsites were running sprinklers in a way that would hit the camper. I went and camped in the work area parking lot. The sprinklers were still on at 7am, but when workers started arriving at 8AM Monday morning someone turned them off. I can’t imagine this is a common thing, but I thought I should mention just in case they do this every Sunday or something. There is also a day use picnic area that had sprinklers on the whole time. Their water has tested positive for coliform so they do not have potable water. They have vault toilets and a dumpster. I think this could be a lovely place to camp if it weren’t so windy and if the sprinklers were not on but unfortunately, that combo with no cell service made it just meh for me. It’s a beautiful place otherwise.
