We went down to the lake from our site and there was trash all along the lakeside. Not worth it for the price at all!

You do have to watch out for thorns called goatheads Which are terrible and attach to your shoes and very painful to bare feet.
Willie would stay here again

We camped at a basic site where you had to drive through sandy low brush to site. We unloaded our bikes and within 10 minutes we had flat tires due these thorny burrs. Stay on paved roads in this campground.
We’ve camped at Ogallga Campground in the past and prefer it.

Lake Mac is a unique place to boon-dock on the beach and boat. We reserved a campsite at Little Thunder. It was difficult to find with poor signage. RV site #11 was clean and spacious. There was a chaos of people and tents everywhere regardless of if there was a site available (along the road, parking lots, picnic areas). Lines to the bathroom are long. Bathroom is filthy with dirty toilet paper thrown in corners and spit on walls. Loud party atmosphere (it was July 4th, but I don’t think that was the only reason). We would go again but only to boon-dock on the beach, never a RV site again. Stop in Ogallala or Paxton for gas and last minute ice/supplies. Gas station at Lake Mac is poorly managed; it took us 45 minutes to top off gas. Only one dump and water station- be prepared to wait.

Lake Mac has been getting worse each year, when they first opened Little Thunder campground 20 ish years ago it was the hidden gem for families with children. Since it has become overrun by people shooting fireworks (not allowed even on the 4th) leaving messes in the shower house (a feminine product was left in one shower stall) excrement wiped on the wall and in general dirty. Lastly our campsite smelled like a sewer when we arrived, this may be due to a storm that overturned some campers but we hosed the pad and surrounding area down thoroughly and that helped but why didn't the NE Game and Parks do some cleanup? NE Game and Parks needs to enforce the rules again and hire a few more folks to manage and clean the campgrounds again.
