It's approximately 65-70 miles to the NE gate of YNP (thru Cooke City/Silver Gate, MT). Driving time would be about 2 - 2 1/2 hours. From Cody, WY it's 60 miles and takes a minimum of 1 1/2 hours (lots of switchbacks up over Dead Indian Pass). The campground itself is 20 miles down dirt road off of 296. The main roads, 296, aka, Chief Joseph Hwy and 212 are places where big game could be seen along side or in roadway. There is also the possibility of cattle and horses in/along the roads that are on grazing rights.
