I planned our trip based on another user’s review and I was not disappointed. We stayed Feb 18-21, 2021. It was chilly for the duration of our trip and rained the first day and a half but was sunny the rest of our stay. We stayed in site 8 which is a large, waterfront site. Site 7 was just as large but not quite waterfront although it did have a great view of the lake, site 9 was also fairly large and waterfront. I felt like those are the three larges sites in the campground. Our site was level, my only problem was reaching the 30 amp outlet from where I set up, it took almost all of my cord length to reach but there was still enough slack to have it lie on the ground. When we arrived, it had been raining for over a day, and was going to to continue to rain until the next morning (a flood warning came through on our way there for the area and didn’t expire until the next day). The road into the state park itself was paved, however there was significant water accumulation in the low parts of the road (1-2”, maybe more). The road into the campground is sand, all the site pads are as well, and maintained as well as it could be considering that. There were potholes, some significant, throughout the entire road through the campground but at the 5 mph speed limit they were not a problem to navigate through. The sites with water and electric seemed to not have much water accumulation, and our site specifically had none. The tent sites however I did notice a large amount of accumulation in at least 50% of the area of the site. I would say sites 33-45 (ish) suffered from this so if you plan on staying at one of those sites keep that in mind as well as the weather. There were two campground hosts while we were staying there, one across from the camper cabin and another towards the back loop, who were all very friendly and helpful. It looks like there is a site for another but they were away at the time. The hosts sell firewood during the day and the current going rate was $6/ bundle. Bathrooms were clean also. I had one bar of ATT LTE while we were there, occasionally two but the majority it was one, but it was strong enough to stream Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc. My son was even able to use the hotspot feature to play video games on his Nintendo. Unsure of upload ability. This was overall a great stay and we will be back as soon as we are able!

Great place to relax and enjoy nature. Crackle of campfire and squirrel chatter, occasional honk of a goose were the day’s soundtrack. Beautiful, clean, quiet.

The park is in the middle of nowhere. I did get about 1-2 bars on Verizon and AT&T unboosted. The nearest towns are Dillon and Mullins and they are not much to write home about but have the essentials. Myrtle beach is about an 1.5 hours away.
Bathhouse was nice and clean. Didn’t have water when I first pulled in but that got fixed within a few hours.
The biggest thing to note is that the lake and park are beautiful and serene. There is one short nature trail. Lots of pine. If you like to fish or kayak or canoe then this park is for you. I stayed in site 27 which was right on the lake. Sunsets were lovely. Aesthetic beauty is the main draw of this park. Oh and the price is right! Pretty affordable.
Some folks commented on the road. It was freshly grated when I drove in but had already started to washboard when i left. They had road equipment at the end of the drive and were working on it so I think they try their best to keep it up.

We decided Wednesday night to go camping and found this little GEM of a place. Check in Thursday at 2pm was easy as expected using the SC Parks website and our site was ready when we arrived. With a clean fire pit and swept area with a freshly turned up sand bed(we learned it helps with the flies).Fire pit, picnic table and water at our site. The host were awesome and checked in several times and provided us wood for our pit. Albeit a little wet and unseasoned wood but we made it work. The road leading into the camp is in need of some repairs and i could see driving a larger rig in there would be tricky but manageable. The lake was beautiful as we walked the grounds several times with our dogs. The lake had drained a few years back due to a damn breaking but it is back and beautiful.

Nice family atmosphere here. Sandy, wooded sites on a small lake. Some sites are tight to back into, but ours was fine and we had good distance from other campers. Nice trail through ancient towering pine trees. Love the isolated area, but the final road coming in, although paved, is more potholes than road.

Another parks checked off teh list at the time. There is a convenient brewery close enough by that made it nice. And we did go to a the Hippy Fair that weekend which had great music. One ting I find is there is no convenient listing of local events within driving distance to the park. There should be a person for the parks that creates lists of events in a one page flyer to post for the Friday-Saturday-Sunday period at every park.

Bathhouse was not the most modern but everything worked and was clean.
Community area had horseshoes and corn-hole. Office hours are only 1 hour per day but ranger makes the rounds (5:30pm ish) and was very pleasant.
Get your groceries before you get to camp.
As mentioned above the lake is now a meadow due to the loss of the dam during a past hurricane.

Being there in mid April, we almost had the place to ourselves. But the sites are large and well spread out.
If you have a big rig, we highly suggest you drive or walk the road first to make sure you can get through. My husband and his top-notch driving skills got us between the trees on the winding road with no problem.
The camp hosts are the hardest working camp hosts I have ever seen. The campground is spotless.
Verizon worked well, and worked better with my external antenna on my Jetpack. Over the air television was plentiful. And it was a quick 15 minute drive into town for supplies.
This campground is a new favorite. Be sure to walk the hiking trail.
