Little Nelchina State Rec Area

We had planned on staying here in late July '22. There is no highway sign for this location but it is near mile marker 137.6, just east of the Little Nelchina River. This campground is unmaintained and was formally know as Little Nelchina State Recreation Site.

After crossing the river and turning down into the campground, there is a very nice big back in site where we parked to scout our options. There was also a very nice camping spot right on the river below this back in site that was occupied when we arrived. There were several other good sites on a loop, but there were HUGE potholes to go through. I highly suggest you scout before taking a big rig down there. There were some VERY old outhouses and a TON of mosquitos.

I thought I had taken pictures, but I guess I did not. We ended up not staying.

Several established campsites along the Little Nelchina river. Fairly level back in sites with stone lined fire pits left by previous campers. No services but there is a couple pit toilets.

No Verizon cell service but enough service on AT&T for our router to pick up so may give you some cell coverage.

To get to the sites, going toward Glennallen, take a left immediately past the bridge over the Little Nelchina river. The road is not marked! It takes you back across the river and down to a loop with sites. Several of the sites are suitable for big rigs.
