After a day of paddling I was looking for a place to bed down for the night. I stopped by Little Green Pond and the first site I checked out was open so I grabbed it. Little Green Pond Campsites are free camping located off State Route 30, just off Fish Hatchery Road. The DEC operates a fish Hatchery that includes Little Green Pond so it is a restricted body of water. No fishing is allowed and the area is regularly patrolled. There are 12 sites with ten being drive up and they are first come first served. The other two are walk up sites. The main entrance road is hard packed gravel, the roads to the sites are muddy with deep trenches and may need 4x4. Higher clearance vehicle are highly recommended. The sites are nestled in tall white pine trees, sites are pretty level, have a picnic table and fire pit and have a outhouse! Some sites share an outhouse with a neighboring site. There is good privacy between sites. Bear precautions must be taken or you will get visitors. Paddling is available in the area as a neighboring pond, Little Clear Pond is part of the St. Regis Canoe area. One thing, each night there was campers that skinny dipped/bathed by their site....it was kind of discreate not a bad thing, just be aware. It's actually a great spot to get away. I did have one and two bars of cell reception. There are restaurants in the area like Charlies Inn, located in Lake Clear Junction, gas and groceries are in Tupper Lake or Saranac Lake. Sites fill up fast for weekends and holidays. Since sites can't be seen from the main dirt road, I recommend to park and walk in to see if site is available, as turn around to get out is limited. I will definitely stay here again
